Material Health Tools Harmonize
Manufacturers should get more consistent signals as Cradle to Cradle, GreenScreen, Pharos, and other tools align, while staking out niches.
by Candace Pearson
Material health organizations have been all been pushing hard to get more manufacturers to disclose and optimize the ingredients in their products, but with multiple platforms like Health Product Declarations (HPD), Cradle to Cradle (C2C), GreenScreen, and Pharos all getting traction, the leaders of those organizations have realized that their tools play complementary roles, which if aligned better, will speed market adoption of safe products.
C2C and GreenScreen aligning
According to Susan Klosterhaus, vice president for science and certification at the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute (C2CPII), the next version of C2C—Version 4.0—recently began its public development process, and C2CPII will work with GreenScreen in that process “to align our hazard assessment methodologies so that our programs can communicate chemical hazards in a consistent manner.”
