Readers Respond to Taunton Partnership
Congratulations on the partnership with such a class act as Taunton Press. I’ve always felt that
EBN has been one of the most effective forces in bringing about the green building transformation we’re experiencing.
EBN gives direction to the leading edge of the green building movement through its “big picture” perspective and its even-handed approach in cutting through hype to evaluate the pros and cons of products and techniques. I truly appreciate what you’ve created, and I look forward to your future with Taunton as you continue to facilitate the green building transformation.

I’m a long-timeEBN subscriber and a very long-time subscriber to
Fine Woodworking (I think I started with the second issue). Congrats on the partnership. Taunton seems like a great organization. I’m writing to express my hope that you will have some influence on Taunton to incorporate more green issues in their publications. I have been consistently disappointed in
Fine Woodworking’s lack of interest in green issues as they affect woodworking and all too often highlighting of the use of rare and endangered wood species. Perhaps you can encourage them to face the fact that it is not just the industrial use of wood that can adversely affect forests and ecosystems, but small commercial and home woodworker use as well.

As long as I’ve subscribed toEBN (circa ten years), I’ve found it not only excellent but credible, in the way only enterprises not beholden to advertisers are. And I’ve been willing to pay the price asked. I agree that Taunton Press has some excellent editorial content, but the paper and ink consumed in printing its advertising content is simply wasteful, and I’m not prepared to concede the editorial impartiality of any publication with advertisements, irrespective of claims. So… has
EBN jumped the shark?

Editors' response: We had to Google “jump the shark” to find out what you’re suggesting. Now that we know, we can only say that we chose Taunton Press as our partner precisely because the people at Taunton share our high standards of credibility, integrity, and openness to new ideas. As always, we appreciate both the votes of confidence and the ideas for improvement. Please keep them coming!Published April 29, 2008 Permalink Citation
