International Project - Case 2 Option 1 or Option 2

August 24, 2017

Dear all,

We have a retail mall in Malaysia targeting LEED EBOM v2009 rating. Under the portfolio manager our mall would fall under the "enclosed mall" space type, which is not eligible for the energy star certification or scoring and thus would lead us to the Case 2 offline calculator for this credit.

Under the Case 2 calculator, we've created a breakdown of all space types within the mall which pointed us to use Case 2 Option 1.

The baseline developed on there for the National Average Source EUI, is 315kBtu/sqft. However, the table does ask that international project insert an "Alternative Source EUI", which we assume would be the Malaysian national source EUI. But there is no such data available unfortunately.

As such, we were wondering if we could opt to develop our baseline using Option 2C instead which is our historic building data + comparable buildings?

Any guidance on this is much appreciated!

Building Flush Out Inquiry

Building Flush Out Inquiry

August 23, 2017

We are currently working on an EBOM Retail project which is undergoing fit out works to the common mall and tenant areas. In order to comply with the credit requirements for building flush out, we would like to run our smoke spill fans before occupancy to meet the 3500ft3/ft2 requirement with the space ventilated at a minimum 0.3cfm/sqft and continue the process during occupancy (after operational hours). Since we will be using the smoke spill system for this flush out purpose, the cooling systems will not be operating during flush out. However, this will lead to higher indoor temperature and RH that exceeds the 60% requirement.

My question is, does the LEED requirement for "maintaining a relative humidity no higher than 60% where cooling mechanisms are operated" generally apply to any spaces that are typically cooled during operational hours, or does this mean the RH can be higher than 60% if the cooling systems are not operated during the flush out?

Also, it appears that LEED EBOM V4 allows IAQ Testing to be carried out as an option, so I was wondering if it might be possible for our LEED EBOM 2009 project to adopt this IAQ Test option? We will be doing a flush out at lower quantities in compliance to our local green building certification, after which we are quite certain the indoor air quality will be acceptable and can be justified through air quality test reports.

Appreciate any guidance/ answers on this.

Thank you!!

ACP for Certified Wood vs Pilot for Legal Wood

ACP for Certified Wood vs Pilot for Legal Wood

April 20, 2017

The "LEED 2009 Global Alternative Compliance Paths Credit Table" (http://bit.ly/2ovIELH) does not include an ACP for C&S MRc6 Certified Wood, but there does exist a pilot for Legal Wood (http://bit.ly/2pIFFnR). The requirements for Legal Wood ("wood products from certified sources as defined by ASTM D7612-10") seem like they would suffice for an ACP. How would I go about confirming this as a valid approach?

General Emissions Evaluation

General Emissions Evaluation

April 11, 2017

Hi All! Appreciate if someone can help with the following.

The reference guide states that for projects overseas, the products can be tested to either CDPH or AgBB. Unfortunately, finding products that are tested to either of these 2 are like finding a needle in a haystack. However, wet-applied products that meet the additional VOC content requirements are readily available.

Is it possible to still meet the credit requirements with documentation of meeting the additional VOC content requirement but without the General Emissions Evaluation?

Cheers

ESVE Requirement

ESVE Requirement

March 17, 2017

Hi, hope someone can help clarify whether the requirement for the ESVE to be capable of participating in a demand-response program or time-of-use pricing means that we must participate in either one or that the chargers only need to be capable?

Cheers

International Project - Case 2 Option 1 or Option 2

International Project - Case 2 Option 1 or Option 2

February 13, 2017

Dear all,

The case 2 calculator has pointed us towards using Case 2 - Option 1 for our Existing Retail Mall project located outside of the US. Under this option, the calculator states that an alternate source EUI data should be entered. This, I assume would be the national average source EUI - which is not available in Malaysia.

As such, would it be acceptable is we used Case 2B - project building historical data instead?

Some general guidance on selecting the right case would be much appreciated! =)

Thank you!

Table PIf3-1 Space Usage Type - Owned vs Leased

Table PIf3-1 Space Usage Type - Owned vs Leased

January 12, 2017

Hi could you confirm whether the "Owned/Leased" column is meant to reflect the project owner's usage management versus the building owner's usage? For instance, my client owns the whole building and leases out some but not all of the space. For spaces that are leased out to other companies, do we still select "Owned"?
Thank you.

Required parking lots and LEED boundary Calculations

Required parking lots and LEED boundary Calculations

May 25, 2016

Hi all,
We have a question about LEED boundary calculation as below:

In order to save the land, our company has set up a shared parking lot in the area, so this project does not have new parking spaces. The parking lots, which we call it “Traffic Center” is built for the whole surrounding building, including this project. The traffic center is located at the northwest of the project site. Both traffic center and the LEED Project are belong to the same owner. Our project team also have permission to use these parking lots.Traffic Center are not calculated into the LEED boundary.

Question:
1. can traffic center not within the LEED boundary?

2. Total building area (All Floors) is about 18442m2=198436sf including 52m2=560sf office area and 18390m2=197876sf commercial area. According to the regulation of Malaysia, they have two ways to calculate the parking lots. One is only as commercial building, another is mixed office and commercial center, which one can we use? and there are about 2000m2=21000sf reception room and VIP room in the third floor, can it calculate into the office area?

Thanks for any advice!

Modeling DCV Savings for Proposed Building

Forum discussion

Modeling DCV Savings for Proposed Building

April 15, 2016

To account savings using DCV, we understand that Baseline building ventilation is to be modeled using ASHRAE 62.1 whereas Proposed building ventilation is to modeled as designed.

However our Baseline building is being modeled as 1 system per floor (VAV) whereas Proposed building is being modeled as 2 systems per floor (VAV+DCV and CAV).

As the Proposed building has 2 different systems (1 with DCV and 1 without), can the baseline building still maintain ventilation according to ASHRAE 62.1? Or do we need to separate the baseline building to 2 systems as well?
