Paper and Cardboard

May 17, 2016

According to the LEED guides the paper and cardboard are recycled separately. In the case of Europe they are not, they are recycled together and treat it in the corresponding center.
My question is:
Is it necessary to place 2 bins for paper and cardboard projects located in Europe?

Renewable Energy in Template EAp2 (Healthcare)

Renewable Energy in Template EAp2 (Healthcare)

May 17, 2016

Hello.

I´m modelling a new construction Healthcare building.

To insert the results of renewable energy generation in LEED EAp2 Template, exit 3 options:

- Automatic Cost Calculation
- Manual Cost Input
- Energy Model Includes Renewables

I have modeled renewable energy (PV + Solar thermal) directly in my energy model (EnergyPlus), but the results of generation energy are not subtracted of facility energy demanded.

So, when i choose option 1 (Automatic Cost Calculation) in LEED EAp2 Template, the renewable energy generated is subtracted from results of building energy consumption.

On the other hand, in EAc2 LEED Template, the renewable energy generation is specified and the LEED points are awarded.

As I understood, if you attempte EAp2 (EAc1) with Renewable energy included, you can´t attempte EAc2.

Is it correct?

What option i have to select in EAp2 LEED Template, related with renewable energy? To attempte EAc2 too.

Thanks

Carrier air to water chiller (non standard (ARI) testing)

Carrier air to water chiller (non standard (ARI) testing)

May 3, 2016

I would like to check if the Carrier model 30RQ0262 (COPc=2,62 according ARHI test 550/590 despite ASHRAE requires ARI 340/360) will meet that Mandatory Provisions in terms of Equipment Efficiency.

after perform hole buidlign simulation, the result using this units is 30% reduction.

Additionally we have checked the CIR ID#2305 +ID#10028+ ID#5938 – “Option 1 - Whole Building Simulation, offers the flexibility that the project team requires. Applicable Internationally.” Y “the project is requesting confirmation of non standard (ARI) testing methods for the proposed equipment efficiencies”

Standing human activity

April 27, 2016

Hello,

I am working in a Museum project. The human activity is standing (walking in the museum).
So, the direct line of sight to the outdoor environment via vision glazing could be 60´´, instead of 42´´?

Thanks

FTE is linked to IEQc6.1 and IEQc6.2 - Healthcare buildings

FTE is linked to IEQc6.1 and IEQc6.2 - Healthcare buildings

April 6, 2016

In our Healthcare project, there are different workers during the morning, afternoon and evening, with a time of 8 hours each.

If I count the FTE, I get a total of workers greater to the number of workstations. And this affects to IEQc6.1 and IEQc6.2.

What is the process for counting FTE in hospitals with 3 shifts of 8 hours per day?

How to resolve the number of workstation in IEQc6? Since the total number of workstation is linked from PIF3.

Thanks

Outdoor air

Outdoor air

April 4, 2016

In exception C in section G3.1.2.6 Ventilation, it states that 'If the minimum outdoor air intake flow in the proposed design is provided in excess of the amount required by the rating authority or building official then the baseline building design shall be modeled to reflect the greater of that required by the rating authority or building official and will be less than the proposed design.'

If outdoor air rates exceed Minimum Outdoor air Prerequisite rates because the local standard requieres higher outdoor rates, do we need to set the baseline rates equal to the Minimum requiered for the Prerequisite IEQp1 or we can use the same outdoor rate of the proposed case (rates requiered by local standard)?

Simulation. Warehouse. Fixed high racks, occupied.

March 31, 2016

For a warehouse, can I deduct the permanently fixed high racking coverage area from the gross floor area, and focus my 75% daylight coverage on the aisles and landing spaces only? I say yes. Right?

using TDD's & simulation.

( I can't believe I don't know this answer, forgive me if this is a regularly asked question, and I missed it in a search result. I have read several posts and I am not sure I am clear.)

Reducing Volume of stormwater runoff through 2 improvements

Reducing Volume of stormwater runoff through 2 improvements

March 16, 2016

Hello,
Our project is based on the case 2. Existing Site With imperviousness is greater than 50%.

We implemented several strategies for improvement:
a) Reduced runoff place
b) Accumulation of rainwater for reuse in toilet flushing

We calculate reducing stormwater runoff by reducing runoff coefficients. The result is an improvement of 12%:
Pre-development = 508,5 cf
Post-development = 447,2 cf

Then, we calculate the water reuse for toilet flushing in 72 hours. The result is 500 cf.
(The tank capacity is 1550 cf)

So, can we prove that our post-development runoff is 0 cf (447,2 cf - 500 cf)?

Thanks
