Soil contaminated (by oil/diesel)

January 23, 2017

We are working in a project where a tank containing 6,000 lt of fuel has been detected in the soil. This tank is confined within a concrete structure to prevents soil contamination and into this structure were with soil in it. Some tests are conducted and we find that the soil into the concrete structure was contaminated and the soil out of this structure were not. My question is if the remediation of the soil into the structure qualifies the site for the brownfield redevelopment credit?.

Thanks in advance,

Generic or Product-specific EPD ?

Generic or Product-specific EPD ?

January 23, 2017

Dear All,

An international insulation manufacturer has developed an EPD for all its products consisting in rock wool insulation. The plants chosen for the analysis are located in different European countries, and represent the average technology in the company in terms of energy use and emission and the application of environmental technology. Data are weighted by production volume.

According to the EPD, stone wool products are manufactured with the same underlying technology and pass through the same production processes in different production plants.

It doesn't match with the guide definition for generic EPDs, but I'm not sure if it could be considered as a product specific EPD.

As an EPD developed by a single manufacturer for its products ¿Can this EPD be considered as a Product-specific declaration for its rock wool insulation products, even if it is not for a specific production plant?

Thank you for your help!

VOCs and regularly occupied spaces

VOCs and regularly occupied spaces

January 19, 2017

Hi, i'm working in a project of a refrigerated warehouse where most of the surface is not a regularly occupied space.
The question is: do non regularly occupied spaces have to comply with credit requirements in order to achieve the credit? or is it only in regularly occupied spaces where we have to achieve VOCs thresholds.

Thanks

Entryway system and fire security

Entryway system and fire security

January 16, 2017

The project is a warehouse divided in two parts: storage and offices. For to achieve this credit it applies entryway system which have to be a special carpet of 3 meters long, continuous and permanent.

One of this systems is put between the warehouse and offices, but this space is a hall for fire-security lower than 3 meters. The doors for acces at the hall are airtight and can't accept the carpet.

Our question is: It is possible cut the carpet and separed it the space of this door for to comply of the fire-security regulation and achieve this credit?
In other words, if we separe the carpet 3-4 cm in a point, it will be considerated continuous?

Thank you.

Continuous Monitoring Sensors

Continuous Monitoring Sensors

January 13, 2017

Hi there,

a quick question regarding the locations of the sensors/measurements required for this credit.

As stated by Ashrae 55-2010, Air temperature
and air speed shall be measured at the 0.1, 0.6, and
1.1 m (4, 24, and 43 in.) and radiant asymmetry at 0.6 m (24 in.). I was wondering if these measurements are required for the permanent and continuous sensor system or just the periodic measurements for this credit? Otherwise, is it OK to have one sensor per each thermal zone installed at any height for at least the continuous monitoring system?

Thank you in advance!

Laura

Demonstration that plants are native or adapted

Demonstration that plants are native or adapted

December 19, 2016

Hello,
We are encountering some problems as to deciding which vegetation species can be counted as adapted. In a Mediterranean country, there are many plants that grow well in our city. However, if being strict and following the botanical list of plant species provided by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, there are only a few plants we can choose from.
Does LEED have any requirements as to prove that plants are adapted?
Thanks very much in advance,

Kitchen Faucets

Kitchen Faucets

December 14, 2016

The building I am trying to obtain the certification for, is a museum. It has two rooms with faucets for the cleaning staff. Are these faucets into the objetive of reduction?
Additionally, do the faucets of the kitchens (we have five different kitchens and 3 of them are not commercial because are aimed to private activities promoted by the property), pre-rinse and sink faucets a baseline of 1.6 gpm? Anyway, for the kitchens, the facets are not in the objetive of efficiency and we just have to check the objetive of 1.6 gpm, am I in a good way?
Thanks in advance

Group or single project?

Group or single project?

October 24, 2016

Hello,
We are pursuing LEED EBOM v2009 for an office complex. The project was built at the same time and has two twin buildings, with independent HVAC systems. However they operate as one, sharing open areas, underground parking, owner, property manager, waste disposal spaces (there is only one waste disposal space for the complex), purchasing, services (such as maintenance, cleaning, gardening, etc.).
We had registered this project as a single project but now have doubts about whether this should be a single building or group certification.
If we finally do this as a group, do we need to register a master site, etc?
What do you think?
Thanks

dB & STC

September 14, 2016

I'm working with a Spain Project. Spain doesn't use STC Rating, Spain assesses with dB. Can you say me what is the relation between STC and dB? How I can convert the dB into STC?

Thank you.
