Submetering the pool and dialysis

January 25, 2024

Hi.

We have a building that is half a fitness facility and the other half a medical clinic. We intend to submeter the pool in the fitness facility and the dialysis equipment in the medical clinics.

I know that the pool would fall under the other process water. Would the dialysis fall in the same category as the Indoor fixtures?

Also, It says, "Meter at least 80% of expected daily water consumption for process end uses, such as humidification systems, dishwashers, clothes washers, pools, and other subsystems using process water." Does this mean the pool water should be sub-metered with every other process water to constitute 80%? Would that mean this is just one sub-meter requirement if dialysis falls in the same category? Do we still need to install a sub-meter for another category to comply with the credit?

Thanks.

Purchasing Policy Prerequisite

Purchasing Policy Prerequisite

January 25, 2024

I'm working on a project where the property manager told us the only on-going purchases for the buliding are cleaning supplies (brooms, garbage bags, gloves) and all other purchases are tenant managed. I'm wondering what we should do if we don't have a "5 most purchased product categories" and how we should be drafting the purchasing policy to obtain this prerequisite.

Public park adjacent to the project boundary

Public park adjacent to the project boundary

December 20, 2023

Hello,

The project is not meeting the requirements. We only achieved 26% for outdoor space and 15% for vegetated space. Can I use a public park area that shares the same boundary as the project? We have created an internal ramp to connect the project with the park.

I noticed this thread https://leeduser.buildinggreen.com/forum/overhead-vegetated-canopy but I want to confirm if this approach would be valid.

Thanks,
Eslam

LEED certification for open spaces

LEED certification for open spaces

December 1, 2023

We would like our expansion project to be LEED certified.

There will be no physical separation between the existing building and the extension (no walls).

In fact, the space will be open over the entire length of the expansion (very elongated shape – several hundred meters)

Does this condition allow us to submit our project for LEED certification?

Our concern is particularly in relation to Energy and atmosphere credits (EA Prerequisite: Minimum Energy Performance)

Should the junction between the existing building and the extension be closed?

Thank you for your feedback.

How can an expansion project with zero indoor water use scope comply with WEp2 requirement to reduce potable water use >20%?

How can an expansion project with zero indoor water use scope comply with WEp2 requirement to reduce potable water use >20%?

December 1, 2023

I'm working on a 455,000gsf expansion of an existing warehouse/stroage facility. The existing facility won't be renovated, spare for the demolition of an existing exterior wall to provide enclosed access to th new expansion. All restrooms serving the overall building are already built/within the existing building. The new expansion, while large, will not house any water-using fixtures, as the purpose of this facility is for automated storage/warehousing only. As such, we have a project where there will be zero water use to reduce above baseline; thus, I'm wondering how we can comply with this Prerequisite? Is this to be treated similarly as outdoor water use reduction when there is no permanent irrigation system installed? In that instance, the "reduction" is 100%, by forgoing systems, which also satisfied the Prerequisite and awards the projects (2) points. Does this same logic apply to a project without indoor plumbing fixtures, and if so, are we able to take full credit (and points) as we would by similarly forgoing an irrigation system onsite?

How can a warehouse extension project (with no regularly occupied space) comply with EQp1?

How can a warehouse extension project (with no regularly occupied space) comply with EQp1?

December 1, 2023

I'm working on a 455,000gsf expansion of an existing facility, which will have all new/standalone systems to support the new wing. The existing facility won't be impacted, spare for the demolition of an existing exterior wall to provide enclosed access between the new expansion and the existing building. The new wing will have only (2) FTE, as the space will be 100% dedicated to storage systems, which will be fully automated. As such, there is technically no "regularly occupied space" that would fall under ASHRAE 62.1-2010 to comply with; thus, I am wondering how we can demonstrate compliance with this Prerequisite, given such a condition?

Regularly used exterior entrances

Regularly used exterior entrances

November 7, 2023

Hello,

We have an office building where the main entrance is at the back, close to the parking area. All FTE use this entrance. The front entrance of the building is primarily for visitors and is not regularly used by workers.

Do we still need an entryway system at the front entrance, considering that it is not a frequently used exterior entrance?

Thank you.

Irrigation Requirements

Irrigation Requirements

October 18, 2023

Hello,

We are further developing the details and plant mixes to increase biodiversity for a BD+C new construction. We have an approximately non-irrigated vegetated area of 55,000 sf and a green roof of 20,000 sf. We want to irrigate the green roof for the 2-year establishment period and during periods of drought. We don’t have access to non-potable water on the site, so it will need to be a potable connection.

Would irrigating the green roof only during periods of droughts disqualify us from option number 1: No irrigation required? Is there a way to comply with option no.1 and achieve 2 points?

Thanks,
Eslam

Pursuing Whole Project Pilot in residential buildings

Pursuing Whole Project Pilot in residential buildings

October 4, 2023

Hello,
I posed a similar question in the forum for the Optimize Proces Water Use credit, but I figured I would post an addendum of sorts in the pilot credit forum.

My initial question pertained to whether residential projects were essentially excluded from both the Optimize Process Water use credit and this pilot credit, as the ASHRAE 90.1 baseline residential building excludes a cooling tower. I heard back from GBCI that "a residential project would be eligible if it has conditioned non-residential floor area (e.g. corridors, amenity spaces, etc) on more than 5 floors or >150,000 ft2, because the baseline system for those areas would be System 7 or 8." This is indeed the case for a couple of residential projects of mine, but I'm curious if anybody out there has attempted this pilot credit, claiming the process water use of a non-residential space in a predominantly residential project? I ask because this seems fairly contrary to the normal "majority of building use = building type" ethos of LEED.

Just curious if anyone has any feedback before putting my eggs in this pilot credit basket. Thank you!

Should we track quantity and costs for profiles and caps/wall base moldings ?

Should we track quantity and costs for profiles and caps/wall base moldings ?

September 12, 2023

I am wondering if edging profiles (like Schluter systems let's say) as well as wall base caps and moldings (like Tarkett finishing accessories) need to be tracked for the Flooring Category. In this case, we would not be able to track areas, it would be more of lenghts. But before asking this type of information to the contractor, I want to make sure it actually needs tracking, or if it can be excluded from the calculations. Anyone has had any experience with this ? Thank you!
