Water test location

Water test for Cooling tower should be done on site?

We have the water test result from the two reservior which are so far from the project site (about 70-80 km). However these reservior provide the city water.Does anyone know the result is acceptable for LEED or we should have an on site water test?

Does recessed lighting under a canopy have to be accounted for in SSc6?

Does recessed lighting under a canopy have to be accounted for in SSc6?

August 16, 2022

We are working on a project where recessed pot lights are installled under a canopy. As per IES TM-15-11, Addendum A, "to determine BUG ratings, the photometric data must include data in the upper hemisphere unless no data is emitting above 90 degrees vertical", these lights do not emit light above the 90 degree threshold and is N/A to the BUG rating option of the credit. However, we are wondering if it would it still have to meet the light trespass requirements using the calculation method under Option 2.

Definition of "one building"

Definition of "one building"

August 5, 2022

Hi all,

I have a question regarding the definition of a building. Under the 2nd requirement of the LEED v4 BD+C Reference Guide, Minimum Program Requirements section, it says that "Buildings that are physically connected by programmable space are considered one building for LEED purposes....". I am working on a project that appears to be 2  buildings at the ground level, but are connected on their two upper floors. The shared space contains loading docks for trucks, as well as trailer parking. It is possible for people to walk between the two buildings using the connected space. I am wondering whether in this case the project should be considered one building, or two separate buildings. Additionally, would it be possible for "programmable space" to be defined?

Thanks and regards,
James

Building Flush-Out Inquiry

Building Flush-Out Inquiry

July 28, 2022

I am currently working on a LEEDv4.1 NC Office project that is looking to conduct a flush-out pre-occupancy. Would we need to perform the flush-out duration per each zone (e.g. office, lunch room, conference room), or can the flush-out be performed for the building as a whole (i.e. office+lunch room+ conference room)

Bicycle storage & shower facilities for multiple buildings

Bicycle storage & shower facilities for multiple buildings

July 28, 2022

Hi all,

I have a question regarding the allocation of bicycle storage spaces and shower facilities for projects with multiple buildings. A similar question has been asked before (here), so I suppose this post is for clarification and to extend the question to shower facilities.

I am working on a CS project with 3 warehouses - A, B, and C - that is pursing the campus approach. Using Appendix 2, I first estimated the employee and visitor counts for each building:

A: 387 employees, 0 peak visitors

B: 126, 0

C: 125, 0

Total: 638, 0

When I calculated bicycle storage and shower requirements for the whole project using 638 employees, I got the following:

No. short-term storage spaces = MAX(4*3 bldgs, 0*2.5%) = 12

No. long-term storage spaces = MAX(4*3 bldgs, 638*5%) = 32

No. shower facilities = 1 + (638-100)/150 = 5

However, when I calculated bicycle storage and shower requirements individually for each building using their respective occupancies and added them together, I got the following:

Building A: Short-term spaces: 4; long-term spaces: 20; shower facilities: 3

Building B: Short-term spaces: 4; long-term spaces: 7; shower facilities: 2

Building B: Short-term spaces: 4; long-term spaces: 7; shower facilities: 2

Total: Short-term spaces: 12; long-term spaces: 34; shower facilities: 7

As these results are obviously different from what I got using the first approach, I am wondering which of the following is correct:

OPTION 1: Based on calculations for the whole project (approach #1), provide 12 short-term spaces, 32 long-term spaces, and 5 shower facilities

  • If this is the correct option to pursue, how should I allocate the storage spaces and storage facilities between the buildings? I suppose that each building need to satisfy its own requirement in terms of bicycle storage spaces, and for shower facilities, they should simply be divided between the buildings as evenly as possible.

OPTION 2: Based on calculations for each individual building (approach #2), provide 12 short-term spaces, 34 long-term spaces, and 7 shower facilities

  • In this case, each building would be allocated their respective numbers of bicycle storage spaces and shower facilities, calculated above.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Best,

James

Greenhouse - Regularly Occupied?

Greenhouse - Regularly Occupied?

July 28, 2022

I am working on a new university building project pursuing LEED v4 BD+C New Construction, and it includes a greenhouse. The greenhouse is a separate building from the main project building.

Does the greenhouse require a thermal comfort control?

Can a greenhouse be excluded when doing credit calculation? If not, is there a default SRI that we can use for greenhouse roofs?

Does a greenhouse need to be included in the light pollution calculations? (e.g.,  the vertical illuminances and the percentage of total lumens emitted above horizontal)

Subfloor vs underlayment - uncoupling waterproofing membrane for ceramic floors

July 8, 2022

Hi! We will be installing a polyethylene based, uncoupling and waterproofing membrane (Schluter-DITRA) on top of our concrete floor before installing the ceramic tiles. The product provides uncoupling to prevent cracked tile and grout. I'm not sure if we should consider this element as part of the subfloor or underlayment... Any thoughts or experience on the subject ?

Option 1. Path 1 - poverty rate

June 28, 2022

To determine the census tract poverty rate based on Statistics Canada 2016 Census of Population data, which metric do I reference?

Prevalence of low income based on the Low-income measure; after tax (LIM-AT) (%)

or

Prevalence of low income based on the Low-income cut-offs; after tax (LICO-AT) (%)

or

some other metric?

or

is either the LIM-AT or LICO-AT an acceptable metric to reference?
