Total Roof Area vs. Total Applicable Roof Area

Total Roof Area vs. Total Applicable Roof Area

November 16, 2022

Hi all,

I'm a little confused about which "Roof Area" to use in the equation for this credit. In the credit requirements, the right side of the equation is Total Site Paving Area + Total Roof Area. However, in the two examples given in the Further Explanation section, the roof area used is the Total Applicable Roof Area, which is Total Roof Area minus the area of any equipment and appurtenances. Thus, I would like to confirm which is the roof area that I should use on the right side of the equation: the Total Roof Area or the Total Applicable Roof Area?

For example, if my roof area is 10000 m2 and I have 1000 m2 of solar panels, should I use 10000 m2 on the right side of the equation or 9000 m2?

Thank you so much!

James

Change in pilot credit requirements

November 9, 2022

One thing our team noticed was that the pilot credit requirements have changed over time.  Originally the requirement said "Facilities SHOULD provide means for the distribution of menstruation hygiene products", now that should has been changed to SHALL.  My project registered for the pilot credit before the requirements changed.

Aside from that, all washrooms in our project were designed to be single occupant, and non-gender specific, so the pilot credit requirements are met.

Comments following the first attempt to document this Pilot Credit

November 9, 2022

These were the comments our project's Interior Designer wished to share:

Although this credit was quite easy to document and achieve, as the LEED design categories and criteria are broad enough to be able to allow basic LEED practices to be part of the submission, the credit language was a little confusing. It took some time to understand and extrapolate what was allowed under each credit as well as what was being asked for under each category.

Another comment we have relates to the criteria for the use of the low-emitting products. The project we submitted was a healthcare project, which the materials and finishes selections are always limited due to Infection Prevention and Control requirements. We were lucky that most products that we used had EPD’s and noted low emitting VOC’s however, it was a much harder credit to achieve as we were limited to products. Many of the products that are used to ensure good IP&C control had heath declarations however, this was not acceptable for the LEED credit. We did our best to push the representatives to push their companies at getting their products certified where they could, however, there still is some work that is needed for us to get further in design of sustainability to become part of regular practice in healthcare design.

Overall, though, the experience was enlightening and useful.

Do loading dock doors count as building entries?

Do loading dock doors count as building entries?

October 14, 2022

Hi all,

For the Environmental Tobacco Smoke control prerequisite, I would like to ask whether loading dock doors for trucks on a warehouse or industrial building also count as building entries within 7.5 m of which smoking is not allowed? I am assuming yes, but it would be great if someone can confirm.

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

James

Bus Park

Bus Park

September 28, 2022

For our school we have a car park (230 spaces) and a bus park (80 spaces).
In order to calculate the percentage of green and electric vehicles, should we also calculate the bus parking? The school does not plan to use electric buses, nor low-energy buses. The bus parking can be used outside school hours.

Use of ERV for Janitorial Exhaust

Use of ERV for Janitorial Exhaust

September 21, 2022

Knowing that in ERVs a small amount of exhaust air seeps/leaks into the supply air stream, is it possible to use an ERV to exhaust air for janitor closets, etc. for credit compliance?  The credit states "no recirculation of the air from these rooms is permitted"; however, ASHRAE allows the use of heat recovery devices for this type of exhaust as long as the potential re-entrained air through the recovery device is less than 5%.

Future Solar Panels on Roof

Future Solar Panels on Roof

September 16, 2022

Hi all,

I am working on a project with rooftop solar panels planned. A portion of the solar panels will be initially installed during building construction, and the rest will be installed at a later time (i.e. after the building becomes operational). For SSc5, when calculating the total applicable roof area, should I only consider the area of the initial solar panels, or should I consider the total area of the initial and proposed future solar panels?

Also, just to confirm, "Total Roof Area" in the option 1 criteria (both equations 1 and 2) is actually referring to the total applicable roof area, which excludes equipment, solar panels, etc.

Thank you so much!

Best,

James

FAR Calculation

FAR Calculation

September 6, 2022

Please can someone explain how to calculate residential FAR? Is it Gross Floor Area/Lot Area or Building Footprint Area/Lot Area where the Gross floor area is the total area of the floors in the building?

Is this value consistent throughout the credits or does it change depending on the submission e.g open space vs rainwater management?

Minimum Energy Performance Calculato

For the benefit of all :

GBCI Canada Response

The project team is inquiring if the Minimum Energy Performance Calculator is required for a project intending
to use the zEPI Pilot ACP 143 to demonstrate compliance to ASHRAE 90.1 for EAp Minimum Energy Performance under LEED v4
BD+C.

No. The Minimum Energy Performance Calculator is not required for projects that use zEPI Pilot ACP 143 to
demonstrate compliance for EAp Minimum Energy Performance. However, additional documentation, such as
a detailed modeling report must be provided including all the information and calculations listed in the
Minimum Energy Performance Calculator for the Baseline and Proposed Case.

Lighting tab - unconditioned spaces

August 17, 2022

Hello,

I am using DesignBuilder to export the minimum energy performance calculator spreadsheet; unconditioned spaces are not filled in the Tab Lighting.

I can't find if lighting for both conditioned and unconditioned spaces should be reported in that tab.
