Distance to the access point within the limit or not

May 11, 2022

Hi, We have an expansion project with operating room, offices, cleaning space for the entire hospital. We would like to install a respite area for visitors (companions) and day patients of this expansion. For control and security reasons, the hospital does not wish to consider the entrance to the expansion for the use of its visitors but for the use of its employees only. Can the main entrance of the entire hospital be used for the 60m accessibility and not the expansion entrance if the entire credit remains compliant knowing that the main entrance is not part of the LEED project limits?  The respite area is exactly halfway between the expansion entrance and the main hospital entrance.

Cistern in only one building in campus master site - points only for that building?

Cistern in only one building in campus master site - points only for that building?

March 25, 2022

I'm working on a complex mixed-use Campus project, where we'd like to pursue this credit for 1 of the separate buildings.

Only one of the buildings on the master site will have a cistern that we will use to manage rainwater on site for 2 points. I am not clear how to approach this credit if only one building has a cistern for rainwater management, within the Campus context:

- Should I use the whole master site area and all roof areas to calculate runoff volume, even if only looking at 1 building?

- Can I pursue the credit for only 1 of the buildings?

Strategy 7. Operable Windows - ASHRAE 62.1-2016 for windows location

March 24, 2022

Hello

As part of a residential project aimed at LEEDv4 BD+C certification, we are studying the different possibilities to meet the "Enhanced Indoor Air Quality Strategies" credit with the strategy 7. Operable Windows which requires to have opening windows for 75% of the spaces regularly occupied. However, by consulting section 6.4.1.2 of ASHRAE 62.1-2016 with addendum l, we understand that it is required to have windows in two opposite places of the same space, so in a case of residential project, to have crossing apartment. Do we understand the requirement of this strategy or would there be an error in the LEED credit and it would be section 6.4.1.

Have any of you used this strategy for a residential project with non-crossing apartment or is it the only way to be able to meet the requirements of this point?

Thanks in advance!

Shower and Change Facility Requirements for Commercial space in a Multi-Unit Residential Building

Forum discussion

Shower and Change Facility Requirements for Commercial space in a Multi-Unit Residential Building

March 10, 2022

Hi,

I have a question regarding the shower and change facility requirements. My project is targeting LEED v4 but is pursuing the v4.1 credit subsitute for Bicycle Facilities. The beta reference guide says to refer to the Step-by-Step Guidance in v4 for additional guidance. The Step-by-Step Guidance (pg. 103) states, “Projects with commercial-institutional space or residential space totaling less than 10% of the total building floor area may follow the requirements of the predominant use, at the discretion of the project team.” The project has chosen to solely meet the bicycle space requirements relating to the residential use (predominant building use) and will not be targeting the bicycle space requirements relating to commercial building use as it's less than 10% of the total GFA.

From my understanding, the shower and change facility requirement is tied into this credit so that commercial FTEs have access to a shower if they choose to bike to the building. Since the project will not be pursuing the bicycle facility requirements for the commercial space is it fair to assume that a shower and change facility will not be required for commercial FTEs? Has anyone had success with a similar approach?

Thanks in advance!

Are glare control devices required only on exterior glazing?

Let's say we have an office (regularly occupied) with a single window looking to a classroom and no exterior glazing. Does this interior window need blinds? Thanks in advance!
