zEPI - Documentation requirements

April 23, 2021

Dear all,

I was looking at the documentation requirement for this credit. I have a doubt regarding the ASHRAE 90.1 :

This is the requirement :

  • The project shall provide all simulation inputs and outputs required in a standard ASHRAE 90.1-2016 submission for the proposed model and the code clone model, including any exceptional calculations.

Do we need to follow the ASHRAE 90.1 2016 ? Even if the zEPI requirements are based in differents standards.

Thank you.

Vestibule not as occupied space

Vestibule not as occupied space

March 23, 2021

We understand that Strategy 4 requires that each ventilation system that supplies recirculated air to occupied spaces have particle filters or air-cleaning devices. Our design proposes MERV 14 filters for all ventilation systems supplying air within the building, with the exception of vestibules that are only equipped with air curtains above each door to prevent cold air from coming in during winter. Since the mechanical engineer does not consider vestibules intended for human activities, and as such, are not occupied spaces as per the definition, we consider to be compliant with the strategies requirement. Could you please confirm whether or not our interpretation is correct ?

Interior and exterior paints

March 23, 2021

The credit requires to specify no use of interior or exterior paints containing intentionally added cadmium or lead. We would like to know if compliance is required only for paints applied on-site or do we need to obtain manufacturer’s information on pre-painted materials and equipments ? If it also applied to pre-painted materials and equipments; are there any exclusions, such as medical equipments, electromechanical systems or other specialty equipments ?

LEED Healthcare VS LEED NC

LEED Healthcare VS LEED NC

March 15, 2021

Hi, I have a question about the rating system to use for our project.

Our projet is a Rehability center for Children (90 childrens of 6 to 18 year old). The center will operate twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week. This center will be operated by a governement agency.

This center will provide some reeducation service and follow up on the behavior of the resident. This center will include emergency section for kid in crisis time to secure them.

The center will host kids with

  • Psychological problem
  • Vulnerability
  • Mental handicap
  • Physical handicap
  • Autistic disablility

Almost of the children will sleep on site and will be in secure zone with surveillance. The center will have a lot of clinical space for the kid.

When we look to the 40/60 rule we consider that we have more than 70% of clinical space but it is not medical treatment like in a hospital, it is more like "psychological" and mind treatement.

At first we think that we must use LEED Healthcare, but when I look to the description of LEED V4 at: https://www.usgbc.org/leed-tools/rating-system-selection-guidance

It is stated that the building must be an "HOSPITAL". Our center won't provide "chirurgical" intervention like in hospital. The center will be more like   a inpatient care facility like it is explain in the Rating system selection guidance fo LEED 2009 (https://lorisweb.com/LEEDv4/GA/GA_READ/GA07_LEED_2009_Rating_System_Selection_Guidance.pdf).

So the question is:

Can we use the LEED Healthcare for our project with the "minding" of the LEED 2009 (inpatient care facility) ?

At this time, everything is set-up (Arch, Mechanical and electrical) in our project to follow LEED HC.

Thank you for your time

LEED Innovation: WELL Features

LEED Innovation: WELL Features

March 1, 2021

1. Was LEED Innovation: WELL Features ever a pilot credit? If so, when and under what version?
2. When did it become an innovation credit?
3. For the WELL to LEED Innovation Strategy 3, was Feature 48 ever standalone under the pilot credit?
4. If Feature 48 was standalone, when was Feature 49 added to it?

WEp2 Compliant Dishwasher

WEp2 Compliant Dishwasher

February 11, 2021

Hi,

I am having a hard time finding undercounter dishwashers that comply with Table 4. Standards for appliances. If anyone knows of any compliant product, can you please share it?

Is the requirement for a typical use or a heavy (maximum water) use? Also, is the requirement for each "use" or each "wash cycle"?

If undercounter dishwasher cannot exceed 6.0 L per rack for each use at this maximum setting, it seems like this requirement is very challenging to meet.

I would appreciate your inputs. Thank you in advance.

Pressurized entryway vestibules at high-volume building entrances

February 1, 2021

Hi, I would like to know if there is additional guidance on the requirement to provide pressurized entryway vestibules at high-volume building entrances. Is there a standard to follow or specific metrics to respect ? Thank you in advance!

PBT Source Reduction Calculator sill required for all LED lighting?

January 7, 2021

Our healthcare project is a new build, and will specify all LED light fixtures. No fixtures contain mercury. To meet the requirements for the PBT Source Reduction prerequisite and ccredit, are we still required to upload the PBT source reduction calculator, and if so how would this document be compiled as none of the lamp type options apply?

Number of seating spaces vs wheelchair space

Forum discussion

Number of seating spaces vs wheelchair space

December 21, 2020

Credit language :

  • Options for shade or indirect sun are provided, with at least one seating space per 200 square feet (18.5 square meters) of each respite area, with one wheelchair space per five seating spaces.

Question : Is the wheelchair space included in the total seating spaces, or it's additional ? For example, a 200 m2 space would need 200 / 18,5 = 11 seating spaces. If we need one wheelchair space per five seating spaces, that means 3 wheelchair spaces (rounding up). So.. is it 8 regular seating spaces + 3 wheelchair spaces OR 11 regular seating spaces + 3 wheelchair spaces ?
