Perimeter area calculation

June 21, 2022

Does anyone know if the perimeter area to be used for Healthcare projects excludes from the calculations the non-regularly occupied space within that perimeter, or do we need to include the whole area, no matter the type of space ?

School- Combination Oven (p2 et credit)

June 3, 2022

Hi LeedUser, My supplier specialist asked me 2 questions on Combination Oven :

1. He found none of information on these ovens to know the consumption per PAN, only LEVEL. How He could confirm compliance ?

2. What is the '' condensate cooling Water '' ? He supposed  it is the discharge of cold water to lower the temperature during drainage. is that it ?

Thanks for all,

Open spaces - Turf Grass Calculation

June 2, 2022

Hi There,

Is Turf grass included in the calculations as vegetated open space? We have a school project. It is LEED V4.0 and we are going with V4.1 for this credit.

Many thanks

Biophilic design plan

Biophilic design plan

June 2, 2022

I understand that the final result must be that the project implements five distinct design strategies. What is more difficult to grasp is how the "Design with nature documentation template" seems to focus more on the process of exploring and the hurdles of implementation (critical timing issues associated with each strategy). There is even new information that is not part of the credit language (mention of project phase, stakeholders, timing issues). While I know the template is not mandatory, it really did confuse me as to what was actually required to be documented. I ended up modifying it quite a bit to reflect more the credit language and shifting the narrative so that the design strategies are more at the forefront.

My question is, am I the only one that felt this way, or am I missing pieces of information ?

furniture reused

May 30, 2022

Hi, for a new school project, the client wants to recuperate a large part of his furniture not integrated to the building to reuse it (like desk).  For the raw material supply credit, it is specified and even quoted as an example '' if the owner moves to a new building, the furniture and furnishings moved to the new site can contribute to the credit '' On the other hand, the non-integrated furniture is out of contract, out of mandate. Can we still consider the owner's reused furniture in the calculation? Our contractor also asks if he can count them for the detour of waste.
For the Low Emitting Materials credit, it is clearly stated that the furniture is "part of the scope of work" for this credit, I will not use it. Is this the same for the raw materials procurement credit?

New addition with separate air distribution systems also feeding renovation portion of existing hospital

New addition with separate air distribution systems also feeding renovation portion of existing hospital

May 30, 2022

We are planning to register a new project for LEED certification, but we need to make sure that we can comply with the minimum program requirement #2 beforehand. The specific language that is causing questioning is the following:

Building

  • Buildings that are physically connected by programmable space are considered one building for LEED purposes unless they are physically distinct and have distinct identities as separate buildings or if they are a newly constructed addition. If separated, the projects should also have separate air distribution systems and water and energy meters (including thermal energy meters).

The proposed project is a new addition to an existing hospital. The 5-storey addition will be built on top of a portion of the existing building, and although it is contiguous to the existing hospital, it will only connect with the existing building at specific levels, through circulation corridors. Some renovations are also planned in the existing portion of the hospital. The new addition will have separate air distribution systems in a separate mechanical room, and will have distinct water and energy meters, BUT it will also feed the renovated portion of the existing hospital.

We would like to propose two options for respecting the above minimum project requirement:

Option 1: Include all affected areas in the LEED certification application, which includes the new 5-storey addition and the renovated portion of the existing hospital that uses the same mechanical system as the new addition.

Option 2: Include only the new addition in the LEED certification application. The renovated portion of the existing hospital that uses the same mechanical system as the new addition would be EXCLUDED.
