Option 2 - No parking

January 25, 2018

Hello everyone,

I am working on a project in which we plan to pursue option 1 of the Heath Island Reduction credit. We were wandering if the project would be admissible to option 2 as well, since there will be no parking on site? The project achieves all points for density and has zero-lot-line (the lot is 100% occupied by the building). I tried and test it in the LEED Online form, but it did not seems to be admissible to option 2 (it was admissible to option1).

Thanks for your imput!

Interior Renovations to Historic Building while maintaining historic status

Interior Renovations to Historic Building while maintaining historic status

January 25, 2018

Would a project still qualify for Option 1 Historic Building Reuse if it has a local historic designation (requiring maintenance of the building exterior components)?  The interior nonstructural elements are being removed and there will some demolition.  All demolition work will go through approval of the local historic preservation review board.

The following two lines  suggest it would not:

"Maintain the existing building structure, envelope, and interior nonstructural elements of a historic building"

"Do not demolish any part of a historic building or contributing building in a historic district unless it is deemed structurally unsound or hazardous."

But this would suggest it would:

"For buildings listed locally, approval of any demolition must be granted by the local historic preservation review board. "

Any insights on whether this qualifies would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Long Term Care Facilities NC or HC?

Long Term Care Facilities NC or HC?

January 25, 2018

I'm currently trying to decide if a project that contains a wing dedicated as a long term care facility is an NC or HC project or a combination of both. The rest of the building will not be operated 24/7 and therefore is not HC.

When applying the 60/40 rule to the building, are resident bedrooms counted as 'acute care' treatment areas when running the calculation?

Would a long term care facility be deemed NC or HC if it wasn't connected to the rest of the project NC building?

Manufacturer Backup documentation

Manufacturer Backup documentation

January 23, 2018

Hi everyone,

I am wondering where I could find the justification for the following:

- A manufacturer letter about recycled content and regional material must be signed

- The letter must include the cost of materials.

I'm getting push back that this is not needed and that the general contractor has the responsability to tallied the costs and therefore it's no needed to be shown on the manufacturer letter.

Thanks

Mandatory Provisions of ASHRAE 90.1 2010,limit of application

Mandatory Provisions of ASHRAE 90.1 2010,limit of application

January 18, 2018

Hi all,

Our building code is less restrictive than the ASHRAE 90.1 2010 for all the lighting controls and efficiency strategies.

The minimum energy performance intent to respect all the mandatory provisions of the 90.1.

I understand that the design of a LEED concept is better in efficiency strategies than a normal concept, but when I check the mandatory formulars and the 90.1 related sections for lighting controls, 90.1 2010 becomes more restrictive than the LEED credit "IEQc interior lighting".

So do we need to respect all the mandatory through all the detailled sections of 90.1 2010 or we need the comply with the credit requirement of the LEED lighting credit ? Where is the limit of application ?

Greeting

Does LEED turf count as vegetation in the 25 % minimum vegetation of outdoor space?

Option 3 flexible lighting control system required documentation

Option 3 flexible lighting control system required documentation

December 21, 2017

I'm not entirely sure what the LEED online form/template means in regards to calculations for flexible lighting control system. The form says to "provide a lighting schedule and calculations demonstrating at least 50% of the lighting load of the project floor area is served by flexible lighting controls." LPD calcs? Calculation of surface area in a separate spreadsheet? The reference guide does not indicate calculations as required documentation, though I know generally a LEED template/form supercedes reference guide for documentation. We can provide calcuations for LPD or surface area (or both?) but I don't want to submit this info willy nilly if it's not necessary. Any thoughts on what is specifically met? We don't have an electrical engineer for the project and our lighting designer wasn't overly sure either. Thanks!

Innovation: Walkable project site

December 20, 2017

Hello everyone,

Long-time LEEDuser user, first-time poster.

I have a LEED v4 ID+C project, located on the 26th storey of a skyscraper, in an urban city centre. I noted that our base building meets the requirements for the "Walkable Project Site" innovation credit from the BD+C innovation catalogue.

Has anyone had any success utilizing a BD+C innovation credit for an ID+C project?

Regards,

Bike Storage and Showers and Change facilities

December 19, 2017

I am working on trying to obtain this credit for a new residential development. The predominant building typology within the development are townhouses and single family homes. For dwellings, can a garage be considered a bike storage facility and bathrooms be considered showers?

Thank you.
