Designing with Nature - Wooden indoor ceilings

October 7, 2021

Currently we are working in a LEED project which we are pursuing this pilot credit of Designing with Nature, and we are wondering if natural wood slats ceilings on main indoor common areas could be one of the five strategies?

We understand that these elements could be a connection with nature as textured materials, to create a distinct sense of place through natural materials.

Thanks in advantage.

Ratio Windows/Wall in baseline model Table G1.1.1-1

June 23, 2021

Dear Srs, I hace a question about the ratio windows/walls in leed v4.1. Is for a building with two differents uses: 3.117 m2 of office and 13.472m2 of warehouse.

When we had modeled the windows of the proposed, we use the project details, perfect. The % of windows/walls  are 2% for warehouse and 32,4% for office. A 9,6% total for the proposed building.

This is our first project with the ashrae 90.1-2016, and we had read the TAble G3.1.5.d that adress you to the table Table G3.1.1-1 to use a ratio windows/walls different for each use.

The Table marks 31% for office (465-4.650m2) and 6% for warehouse. I didn't found anyway that said you need to use the mininum of the two values (as the 2010 version). Then we use 31% and 6% for the baseline model, for a 12,3% fot whole baseline building.

I think this is a correct for the building with the ASHRAE 2016 version. with different % for the two buildings.

Now the LEED revision, ask us to use the minimum value beetween 40% ratio window/wall or the proposed value... as the 2010 version.

Which is the correct value for the LEED v4.1?

DATA CENTERS - Baseline modeling

DATA CENTERS - Baseline modeling

June 2, 2021

Hi Marcus,

We are involved on a Data Center LEED project and USGBC requires whole building energy modelling.

Gross cooling capacity SUM (kW) 33.992 with a PUE value 1,153 (predicted power usage effectiveness).

Since energy savings from the unregulated IT systems are going to be claimed through the Data Center Calculator provided by USGBC, we only justify 12% savings (Server Virtualization, Compute, Main Frame…), so we would like to justify energy saving from the whole building energy consumption.

The Cooling Generation Module (One water cooled 1.650 kW capacity Turbo compressor chiller and Two DryCoolers) will allow for free cooling when outside temperature is below 20ºC (production temperatures are 20 ºC (supply) and 32 ºC (return)), this will reduce significatively overall energy (freecoling).

The question is related to the Baseline modelling conditions. Should we model the baseline as System 8 (ASHRA 90.1-2010) to secure that all CRAC (computer room air conditioning) units receive 25ºC AIR Supply Temp and 37ºC AIR Return Temp and then compare the energy cost with Proposed Building. Office will be served by a DX system.

Thanks

Non emitting product

April 28, 2021

Good morning,

We manufacture mortars for construction in Europe... one of our mortars does not content any kind of ingredient cosidered organic... in that case, could it be considered as a non emitting product?? One of our costumers is asking us to give him an analysis of VOC´s for that product because he wanted to certifie LEED... Could we give him just a certificate that our product is free form VOC´s becuse it has no organic compound??

Thank you in advance

Almudena

PILOT CREDIT - ENERGY JUMPSTART

PILOT CREDIT - ENERGY JUMPSTART

April 14, 2021

Hi Everyone,

We just wanted to tell you about our experience using this credit.

First thanks everyone for sharing all the information and solving doubts about this credit and other credits.

Our project is a Warehouse in Spain. The problem that we faced here was that this warehouse has an area over 25% of the total area that has an assembly and manufacturing line, so we were not able to certify with Energystar and the energy consumption from this equipment is huge. To solve this issue we have used this pilot credit.

We carried out a load assessment to find out the energy consumption from this industrial area, and to normalize the data we used the information from the production time and production equipment installed.

Thanks

Exterior noise reduction of buildings is an environmental strategy very interesting because normally in huge cities noise levels are very high and a great problem.

ASHRAE 50% Advanced Energy Design Guides is not applicable to the base building.

ASHRAE 50% Advanced Energy Design Guides is not applicable to the base building.

February 8, 2021

We are using Option 2. Prescriptive compliance

The project is LEED ID+C Hospitality. So, there is not an AEDG for hospitality buildings.

Can I use another AEDG, for example AEDG Large Hospitals, to achieve LEED points related to Base Building Systems? Or the Base Building Systems compliance is not available for buildings that are not included in ASHRAE 50% Advanced Energy Design Guides?

Thanks

Can room showers be counted for compliance?

Can room showers be counted for compliance?

January 26, 2021

Hello,

I'm assuming that in this type of projects, the guests that are staying at the hotel are considered to be short term and the employees are the long term occupacts. Hence, I was wondering whether the showers already provided in each room of the hotel can be counted for compliance as short term showers.

Thank you very much

No cooling tower - Group Approach Project

No cooling tower - Group Approach Project

January 3, 2021

Dear all,

I have also some doubts about this Pilot Credit (No Cooling Tower):

We are certifying a Business Park under LEED v4 O+M under Group Approach. The buildings don't have cooling towers in their cooling systems and the total Group Project Building area is greater than 150,000 square feet.

Furthermore, the credit (WEc Cooling tower water use) can be documented as one under Group Approach. Therefore, the whole Project "meets" requirements as the baseline system designated for the building using ASHRAE 90.1-2010 Appendix G Table G3.1.1 includes a cooling tower (systems 7 & 8) due to the total surface of the Group Project.

Is this approach correct due to achieve "No cooling tower" path compliance?

Many thanks in advance.
