Does anyone have any comments on this KCMA ? Are they considered as USGBC approved equivalent for LEED V4?

Interstitial or Interior Blinds

Interstitial or Interior Blinds

Would interstitial or interior blinds could contribute to load reductions and contribute to an increase in energy efficiency? What if the blinds are automated and these controls cannot be overridden by the occupants?

Qualifying VRF Systems

Qualifying VRF Systems

March 10, 2015

We are working on a retail project and the mechanical designer insists on using a split VRF system. However the Mitsubishi systems he recommends do not meet the allowable refrigerant/ton set out by LEED.
Does anyone have any advice on what systems/manufactures can be used or how to accommodate a VRF only building for this credit?

Fraction use of FSC materials

Fraction use of FSC materials

March 5, 2015

This question and answer come from above and Missing Manual:
A product has FSC-certified veneer, but a non-certified core.
Can we prorate the MRc7 contribution of this product based on
the cost of the veneer?
No. If the product is built off-site then the entire assembly (the product
which is shipped to site) must have an FSC label from the manufacturer
of the assembly. Individual components, unless they are shipped to
site and thereby complete the chain, may not contribute towards this
credit. All entities that possess FSC materials until the product reaches
the project site must have a chain-of-custody certification.

The question seems to be directed to fraction use of FSC product in an assembly product consisting of FSC and non-FSC materials. Doesn't this apply to Equation 2 of the LEED Reference guide?USGBC ID#10372 mentions "some fraction of the assembly...as FSC certified" and ID#10296 explains further.

Carpet in LEED v4

Carpet in LEED v4

March 4, 2015

Is it just me, or is there not much to work with in terms of compliant carpet for Low-Emitting Materials in LEED v4? The USGBC's Third Party Certifications and Labels table inlcudes FloorScore and NSF-332 but these don't apply to carpet. The table also lists SCS and Greenguard but as far as I know, neither of these programs have any carpet that's been certified. There is no mention of either Green Label Plus or NSF-140. On GreenWizard, I can find only one product that claims to comply with v4 requirements, via the Collaborative for High Performance Schools path. That's it. Any insights/experience?

Adding carpet to LEED Platinum NC building

Adding carpet to LEED Platinum NC building

February 26, 2015

Hi,

I'm new here and new in LEED, I apologize for my ignorance. I work as a PM in a LEED Platinum NC building. We are planning to install carpet in the top floor hall way. There are carpets in other parts of the building but this hall way has never had carpet. What should I consider before moving forward? How should I proceed to keep the integrity of the certification?

LEED V4 Canada, paint Questions

LEED V4 Canada, paint Questions

February 23, 2015

Good morning, first time here, with the new LEED v4 in Canada I have a few questions about the paint for new construction.
Does the regional distance of 800KM still in place in LEED V4 ?
Does the VOC of the colorants added to paint still count for Project in Canada? In the past for Canadian projects the reference was Rule 1113 and Green seal GS-11, and the VOC in the colorant was clear, now with LEED V4 for Canadian projects we need to refer as the Canada VOC limits for Architectural coating but no mention about the colorants.
Thanks for your help
