FTE for university facility

October 6, 2016

Our project is a University educational facility aiming for LEED-Canada 2009 (v3) certification.

LEED stipulates that students are to be considered temporary occupants, however we anticipate that higher level students (Graduate and Doctorate) will be using the facilities for 75-90% of the day as they need access to specialized laboratories to conduct their research.

Are we to count these students as temporary visitors AND part-time occupants, or as full-time occupants, or simply as temporary visitors?

for a residential LEED ND project seeking LEED ND Plan certification only,

the Homes that are required to achieve at least 75 HERS index.

is providing a RESNET HERS model enough , or should the homes be confirmed on-site as well (conducting on-site confirmed rating)? what if the homes are not built yet?

Appendix G system type for addition

Appendix G system type for addition

September 8, 2016

I have an addition to a manufacturing plant. The addition has its own HVAC system so the LEED boundary encompasses just the addition. The addition is 56,000 SF and the whole plant is somewhere north of 500,000 SF. The system types in Appendix G are based on the square footage of the building. Is that the square footage of the building within the LEED boundary or is that the square footage of the entire plant?

Functional Entry for Addition Project

Functional Entry for Addition Project

August 30, 2016

Our project is a four storey addition to an existing four storey building. There are a few doors that connect the addition and the existing building throughout its four storeys, along with several secondary and/or service entrances and emergency exists. The majority of occupants will enter the addition through the existing building.

In determining the most appropriate "Functional Entry" to use for proximity to transit, should the project:

a) use the demising wall between the existing building and addition as the "Functional Entry", OR
b) use the secondary exterior entrances as the "Functional Entry", OR
c) use the existing building's primary entrance as the "Functional Entry."

EPDs covering several product series

EPDs covering several product series

August 26, 2016

Hi all,

What happens when multiple products are gathered into one EPD? In the context of concrete and masonry products, multiple products can be used on a project, let's say 3 (blocks, pavers, slabs) . However, assuming that only one EPD has been done to cover the environmental impacts of those 3 products, how much point do you get? Are points related to the number of EPD or to the number of products. This is not clear to us.

Thank you

Valuation of Recycled Content

Valuation of Recycled Content

August 23, 2016

I would like some clarification on how to calculate recycled content as the v4 Reference Guide is ambiguous, in my opinion.

For example, on p.274 of the ID+C ref. guide, Option 2 Example Calculation: MDF Panel..., the calculation shows ($10,000)(0.9)(0.8)(2 for location) = $14,400. Why isn't the (0.5 factor) for Preconsumer recycled content taken into account?

Also, why isn't it 100% of the product value, so $10,000 and not $7,200 or $14,400? On p.264 of the ID+C guide it says: Products meeting recycled content criteria are valued at 100% of their cost for the purposes of credit achievement calculation.

Also, it never actually says what the "recycled content criteria" are? Can someone please clarify where the criteria are listed?

Thanks in advance.

FIT Program vs LEED Points

FIT Program vs LEED Points

August 23, 2016

Hi,
Does it matter if the energy is consumed by the building directly or fed into the grid (what we do with FIT projects) to get the LEED point associated with Renewable energy category.

The power under FIT program is generated by the building but not consumed by the building directly. Does that matter? and Can the building still get the points as far it is generating power

EQ P2 Option A - Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) Control

August 10, 2016

Hi,

We already have a Smoke & Vape-Free Environment Policy in place since last year which prohibits smoking in and on the grounds, way beyond the 25ft requirement for LEED. We want to make sure our policy meets the requirements of the LEED policy template. What I'm not sure about is if we have to list performance metrics for this credit? Is it enough that we have the policy in place as well as the appropriate signage on site. Also, does our signage have to specifically say no smoking within 25 feet when our current boundary and posted signs are way beyond this?

TIA

SSc6.1 Design Storm Interval

SSc6.1 Design Storm Interval

August 4, 2016

Hi,

I have noticed this question 2 times in the comments, but, I don't see an answer. On page 97 LEED 2009 guide they use 3 days or 72 hours as the design storm interval (between rainfall events). We are in Saskatchewan (Prince Albert), arid climate, do we use the same interval or where does this number come from?

thanks
Curtis

Lease requirements for this credit

Lease requirements for this credit

July 21, 2016

Hi, I am just wondering what specific lease requirement language would be needed for this credit. Or, is it possible to just design for it and ensure that the ventilation rates are adjusted when the space is occupied. Owner/operator provided with tables for all space applications and ability to adjust rates based on use. Thanks!!
